Angie suggests I try using this blog format.

My kind friend Angie says she is having Letters From A Bus withdrawal symptoms, since I have not been able to post to my website since last April due to technical difficulties. She suggests I try to use this blog format. So here I go, Angie. Thanks for the suggestion.

Currently, we are in Freeport, Maine. Freeport Village is the location of the original L. L. Bean and the village has an L. L. Bean "campus" with many buildings that have specialities like boating or hiking. The rest of the village is like a New England outlet mall. Lots of shopping.... We plan to walk around today to see all of this although I think we will not indulge in a lot of spending!

Yesterday we drove 55 miles south to Ogunquit, ME. It is billed as one of the most picturesque towns on the Maine coast. There is a well known paved path along the rocky seashore from Ogunquit to Perkins Cove called the Marginal Way. Sunday at 11:30 am was probably not the best day or time to do this but I wanted to be sure we saw the shoreline on a sunny day. The weather was perfect and so we shared the one mile pathway with many other tourists. It was a very pretty walk although not as gorgeous as Bar Harbor and the coastlines around Mt. Desert Island.

After walking from Perkins Cove and back we sat down outside by the pathway at Oarweed for a seafood lunch. A tourist trap, the food wasn't the best but the atmosphere was excellent.

From Perkins Cove we drove north to Kennebunkport and simply followed any road that would take us by the seashore. We got a good idea of the looks of the coastline and the architecture of the houses and hotels in the small towns by the ocean. It was a lovely drive and Kennebunkport is beautiful. In fact, I think it is much prettier than the tourist congested small towns of Ogunquit and Perkins Cove.

It was a fluke that we happened to choose a road where we saw a large and important house on a peninsula. Cars in a pullout were our clue to stop and something told me we might be looking at the Kennebunkport home of former Pres. Geo. Bush, Sr. An inquiry confirmed that we were indeed looking at the Bush compound. It has security and privacy on the peninsula. Dennis offered to take a photo of me with the compound in the background and I laughingly refused. I am not a fan of Bush Sr. or Jr. so I passed but I did take photos of the house.

I will quit this first blog posting for now as we must take the dogs for a walk.
